September: Athlete(s) of the Month

1: Tell us a little about your family and what life looks like for you outside of CrossFit Bound.

We have 6 kids ranging from 8-24 years old.  Our relationship with the Lord is most important to us and our family.

Kids are in hybrid school, so Julia homeschools them and they go to school twice a week.

After we workout at 530 or 630 AM our day doesn't end until late night. We go to work work and then the kids have their sports practices, extracurricular, etc.

2: With family, careers, and everything else competing for your time, how do you prioritize fitness in your weekly schedule?

We have to sacrifice time somwhere in order to work out, so we choose to get up earlier so we can get everything done throughout the day.

3: How do you make intentional time for each other as a married couple while also balancing your responsibilities as parents and professionals?

Working out is sometimes the only time we get to spend together. Having this has improved our marriage in many ways.  Time together doesn't come without intentional planning, but is always worth it.

4: What role does training together—or simply supporting each other’s fitness—play in your relationship?

We started working out as something we could do together. At first it was a hard adjustment, but with great Crossfit coaches, we've been able to help one another and cheer eachother on during the workouts.

Julia is always setting the bar high and seeing her challenge me and herself is nothing short of amazing.

5: Everyone has days when they’re tired, busy, or just don’t feel like working out. What helps you overcome those excuses and still show up?

Knowing that we get to train together. If we don't we may not get to connect with each other at all that day.

6: Has becoming more consistent with fitness changed the way you show up in other areas of your life—at home, in your marriage, with your kids, or professionally?

It absolutely has, it strengthens our marriage like faith does.

** Couples who pray together daily are widely cited as having a divorce rate of less than 1% (often quoted as 1 in 1,152 or roughly 0.08%), compared to about 50% in the general population.

** Couples who train together build stronger emotional bonds, boost workout accountability, and report higher relationship satisfaction.

** Research shows that couples who exercise together often report higher relationship satisfaction and stronger emotional bonds.

**fitness is a family affair now and we all try to stay active together.  Because of our example, our oldest daughter has joined a gym and started doing crossfit, too

7: What advice would you give another busy couple or parent who says, “I just don’t have time to work out”?

It has to be a priority and something you put on yiur calendar.  No discipline is pleasant at the time, but we know the sacrifice is always worth it

8: What has being part of CrossFit Bound and the community here added to your lives that goes beyond just getting a workout in?

We have made some great connections with members that have also encouraged, helped, and motivated us along the way.  we have been welcomed to CrossFit Bound and our grateful for our fitness community.

Brandon and Jessica have been the greatest duo we've ever met. Their leadership and knowledge is shown through their coachinh. All coaches are encouraging and helpful during the workouts, just like Brandon and Jessica are. We are honored to be a part of the Crossfut Bound community.
