Stanford Garey - April 26’ Athlete of the Month

Consistency. Discipline. Community.
Stanford Garey embodies what it means to prioritize your health and show up—day in and day out.

Stanford is a husband, realtor, and teammate alongside his wife Katherine, and when he’s not helping clients or traveling to the North Georgia mountains, you’ll find him putting in the work at the gym.

💥 His journey started back in 2011, training alongside family and friends. After time away due to life and injury, he made the decision to come back—and hasn’t looked back since.

Since returning:
✅ Down 25–30 lbs
✅ Stronger than ever
✅ More focused on longevity, mobility, and sustainability

1. Tell us a little about yourself (career, family, hobbies, etc.):

  • I am a Husband, & Realtor on a Real Estate Team with my Wife Katherine. We enjoy spending time with our Dog Duke, traveling, & being up in the North GA Mtns any chance we can get.

2. How long have you been doing CrossFit, and what originally got you started?

  • I started CrossFit when I was 18 years old in January 2011. I walked into a CrossFit gym in Canton and it was a place I could workout with my Brother, Friends, & Family everyday. CrossFit was also a different outlet for me after wrestling in my youth and thru high school.

3. You have a background as a coach and athlete — how has that experience shaped your approach to training today?

  • Always trying to make sure no matter the weight, to always do it correctly with the bar or at bodyweight first. Leaving my ego at the door everytime I walk in, not being afraid to scale & let others know that it’s okay to scale to!

4. You took some time away and then returned — what motivated you to come back?

  • Had to start moving again; got overweight & had a sedentary lifestyle for a couple of years after hand surgery and life happening. Have lost 25-30lbs since coming back about 3-4 years ago.

5. Since returning, you’ve made huge progress. What has been the biggest change that led to your success?

  • My continued success has just been becoming more militant on focusing on mobility over strength & cardio/conditioning. Have to start thinking ahead for the next 30 years.

6. You’ve lost 20–30 lbs and gained strength — what habits or routines have made the biggest impact?

  • Stretching, changing nutrition & cutting out bad vices. Also staying focusing on technique over intensity of movement

7. How do you balance a demanding professional career, marriage, and staying consistent in the gym?

  • Time blocking/management & prioritization of the gym is what helps keep my routine in balance. Whether I work out at 5:30am or 5:15pm class. Making sure I stay consistent helps with work & marriage. CrossFit is my stress outlet.

8. What does “prioritizing your health” look like for you right now?

  • Other than staying consistent with going to gym, making sure I stay consistent with nutrition & always open to try new things if you think it will benefit you in some form or fashion.

9. What has been your biggest accomplishment since returning to training?

  • Losing weight & not having strength/muscle loss

10. What is a goal you’re currently working toward?

  • Getting better at bodyweight, & making myself learn to get comfortable in uncomfortable situations by trying to challenge myself with something new everyday.

11. What advice would you give to someone who used to train, fell off, and is thinking about coming back?

  • Don’t wait, start today. There is No Tomorrow

12. What keeps you motivated on the days you don’t feel like training?

  • Discipline, staying consistent on things you don’t want to do. But doing them anyway. That’s how you win.

13. Favorite lift and why?

  • The Snatch!!! Duhhh!

14. Least favorite movement/workout?

  • Thruster/Fran

15. What does being part of the CrossFit Bound community mean to you?

  • Grateful to be at a place where I can workout with my Wife & Friends. The People involved in this community are always here for one another no matter the outcome, whether we finish first or last(I’m usually in the back of the pack for most workouts). That’s also in Life, the reliability of others who workout here when it comes to their trades/professions are always there to help if you need help with something in their expertise of field of work.
